 1) Adam, südafrikanischer Schriftsteller, * Wellington (West-Kap) 21. 12. 1936; an einer Missionsschule erzogen, studierte in Kapstadt, London und Oxford; war zunächst Sozialarbeiter, später Professor für Philosophie in Kapstadt. Seine Werke sind vorwiegend in der Sprache der »Cape Coloureds« verfasst und schildern eindrucksvoll das Leben dieser durch die Politik der Apartheid zu »Mischlingen« degradierten Bevölkerungsgruppe. V. a. sein Erfolgsstück »Kanny hy kô hystoe« (1965) leistete einen wichtigen Beitrag zur Entwicklung des südafrikanischen Dramas.
